Estimated Glomerular Filteration rate (eGFR)

A test for kidney impairment is called the estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR). Your age, gender, and serum creatinine result are used to compute your eGFR. Since creatinine fluctuates with age, gender, and ethnic origin, it is not sensitive to early renal impairment.

High level:

– Chronic Kidney Disease

– Over the age of 60.

– Family history of CKD or kidney failure.

Low level:

– Chronic kidney disease (CKD) progresses to kidney failure

What should you do:

If high levels, Avoid processed foods and choose fresh fruits and vegetables instead. Follow a low-salt diet. Salt should be limited especially if you have high blood pressure, protein in your urine, swelling, or difficulty breathing.

If low levels, Avoid processed foods and choose fresh fruits and vegetables instead. Follow a low-salt diet. Salt should be limited especially if you have high blood pressure, protein in your urine, swelling, or difficulty breathing. Eating less than 2000 mg a day of sodium is recommended. Dialysis is needed.
