In allergic reactions and asthma, eosinophils are crucial, along with basophils and mast cells.
High level:
- invading infection
- Allergic reaction or cancer
Low level:
- Excessive stress or alcohol misuse
What you should do:
High levels:
Treatments might include stopping certain medications (in the case of any medical reactions), avoiding certain foods (in the case of esophagitis), or taking an anti-infective or anti-inflammatory medication.
Low levels:
It doesn’t pose a major threat to your health because other cells in your immune system compensate for the lack of eosinophils. Long-term eosinopenia is dangerous and requires immediate treatment from your healthcare provider.
